One can while away the afternoon in a rocking chair on the veranda...    gazing out in a classic rusticating fashion at the lovely landscaped lawns and gardens and the placid harbor behind.

The Garden

The garden at The Castine Inn is renowned throughout the State of Maine and is listed as an important garden to visit in the websites Maine Gardens (www.ilovegardens.com) and Maine Gardens To Visit (www.plantsgalore.com).

The previous owner and artist Margaret Parker who designed the garden, also painted the famous mural of the town in the dining room and designed the Bicentennial quilt which hangs in the Castine Historical Society.

With 7200 square feet of “garden rooms”, there are many perennials beds, a rose crescent, a stream with a little bridge, a classic New England stonewall and specimen trees.

The Castine Inn garden is a jewel in the crown of this historic town and is a wonderful place for an evening stroll with a glass of wine. The public is welcome to visit at any time.
